Finally getting around to 'meant toos' and read of the issue with Abilify. Sounds horrid and it reminds me of my LAST stay in York Hospital Psych ward. {Damage was 1000x's worse then initial issue for which I admitted myself and took almost 2 years to get back to the condition when 'voluntarily ' checked in}. They gave me Seroquel, hich was presented as a 'non narcotic version of Ativan', another addiction I neither wanted nor requested}. I agreed. And maybe it is? BUT within 24 hours it created what you alluded too. Uncontrollable movements in extremities, severe restlessness~what I call an ADHD x's 1000 condition. When mentioned to staff, who refused to call a doctor as I rapidly got worse, they told me 'you don't have a rash so it's not the meds'. Despite repeated attempts to make me take it I refused and JUMP BACK, the negative effects abated. Always a challenge to take charge of our own medical treatment. Hope things are working as you need.

Truly enjoying reading you blog. And despite past 'bumps' in the further education road I am sure you will continue to make progress in achieving your ultimate goals. For every 'failure' or mis-step we endure increases the odds of sucess. Like a maze in which we often come to dead ends, if we keep our minds open and learn from the wrong turn, it eliminates hitting that wall again.

You speak my mind, Bob. Maybe we are better suited to lives that are both simple and risky - like in the good old days when kids played outdoors for hours after school and did chores that mattered and adults could make a living actually doing something - Argh! this falling snow is crazy-making!

Bob - have you read Nobody's Fool by Richard Russo? His description of the main character's thinking as he just has to rile the trigger happy cop by driving on the sidewalk (if memory serves) will probably feel as true to you as it does to me.

Hi Bob:

Read your article in the Post Star today. I am also in South Glens Falls. I and other parents of children with ADHD and other disabilities started a grass roots organization for parents called, Adirondack Family Support System, in 1994. We have monthly support group meetings for parents and a lending libarary (with many of the above titles included). I also do one-on-one advocacy for children in the schools at IEP and 504 meetings. We should talk sometime.
